The Roosevelt music program consists of general music classes and band classes. General music students participate in activities and classwork that aligns with the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Framework, while also engaging the students in multiple hands on activities including drums, stringed instruments, mallet instruments and hand held percussion combined with singing and movement.
Music appreciation is also a factor in general music and an exposure to a wide variety of musical styles is an important part of the music program at RMS.
The RMS Band program has 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands during the school day. Band classes focus on proper instrument care, technique, handling and performance. Each band prepares for two concerts per year at the school and additional concerts for the New Bedford community.
